NEW MEXICO State Facts



The capital city of New Mexico is Santa Fe. Albuquerque is the largest city in the state, however, as well as the most populated metro area. The state is home to nearly two million people, and ranks 45th in the nation regarding population density.

The highest point in this Midwest state is Wheeler Peak. This peak reaches just over thirteen thousand feet. The lowest point in the state is the Red Bluff Reservoir, which dips down to just under three thousand feet.

There is no official language in the state, but English and Spanish are quite common in the area. Because of the Latino heritage of many New Mexican families, it is not uncommon to be bilingual.

The state covers a total of 121,000 square miles. It is nearly a square, and is 342 miles wide and 370 miles long. It is located in the desert, and only 0.2 percent of the state consists of water.
